Aft Vision
Last week I was on a cruize with my wife celebrating our 10 year anniversary. There was a deck on the very back of the boat (the aft) that we spent a couple afternoons (just like this picture). As I stared off the back of the boat, in a reflective moment, I realized that it's important to have aft vision.
Aft vision is several things. It's perspective on your past. Perspective only works in context. If you're in a valley, you're only allowed to see the mountain ridges around you. But, when you're in the ocean you can see as far as the eye can see, the horizon. Aft vision is a God-given moment to reflect on your past as far as you can remember, the beginning. Seeing the beginning, of anything, helps you realize why you are where you are. Do you know why you are where you are?
Aft vision is looking back and seeing that hindsight is 20/20 vision. It is seeing the wake of what you've done; good or bad. It's learning from what's worked and didn't work. There's an old saying, "Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it." Have you learned from your past?
Aft vision is about repentence. It's being able to let God show you when and where you got off course... in order to turn the ship toward Him in ANY area of your life. Is there a time or moment when you got off course? It's never to late to turn to Him.
Aft vision is also about seeing what you are dragging behind. It's see what is holding you back from moving forward at God's desired speed. What's holding you back? Is it something small like seaweed? Or something big like an anchor? Whatever it is, CUT IT LOOSE SO YOU CAN SAIL FREE!
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Gal. 5:1
