He goes on to say, "What gives me power and credibility is the fruit of the Spirit being evident in my life. I am at peace with the future and with what results come." In context, he's sharing his learnings from 30+ years of disciple-making ministry and his desire early on to have a great plan for discipleship. He concluded, being a great disciple is way better than having a great plan to make disciples.

Anyone in ministry struggles with the desire to lead others closer to God while growing closer to God themselves. It reminds me of something someone said to me about 8 years ago, "You can only lead someone as far as you are willing to go." Those words have challenged, encouraged, and hauted me ever since.

In the long run, people are not inpressed with great programs, crafty sermons, powerful events, or clever blog posts. But, if we want to make an impression for God's glory, our life must be producing fruit of the Spirit. Rooted in the Word and led by the Spirit.
